International Students
You have selected your university and been accepted onto your chosen program
You have sorted your visa, accommodation and money to support yourself
You know when you will be arriving in the U.K.
What is next?
On your arrival get yourself settled. Perhaps book transport from the airport so that you aren’t worried about finding where you need to go
Familiarise yourself with the local shops and amenities such as a G.P. once you are settled in
If you aren’t living on campus do some practice journeys to the university so you can work out how long it will take and what some of the problems might be
Get a good map of the campus and familiarise yourself with teaching areas, the library, cafes and other facilities
When you enrol:
Ensure you have access to your lecture timetable and other online resources
Collect your student badge/pass and make sure you can access all the areas needed
Check out where all your lectures will be – do you know what building, or what room??
Familiarise yourself with the library facilities and perhaps check out some of the reading list literature you are required to engage with
Freshers Week:
this is a good way to meet other students and engage with the social side of university life
Join some societies or student focussed activities to help you settle in
Go to your time tabled Induction session
Use this week to meet other students and socialise
If you are experiencing any difficulties or have any worries about your studies, give Academic Futures a ring and we can help guide you through the initial stages of your studies. We have extensive experience with international student groups and would be happy to assist.
